March 2021 during staff meeting at First Baptist Church of Ferguson, Doug pitched the dream of being able to serve the Ferguson and surrounding communities in a very tangible way. Past mission trips had taught him that things like cleaning up trash, mowing lawns, and helping repair small house projects impact the morale of a community in a very real way. Listening to town hall meetings while being a member of the community displayed a huge need in this community. He found that he had willing hands, but not equipment at the ready to complete the work. With the help of funds from First Baptist Church of Ferguson he was able to begin the search for equipment and begin looking for community sponsorship.

The process of getting this project off the ground was not without speed bumps. Doug recruited myself to help with finances and general work only to find covid hit and my end of the deal stalled. Doug continued pressing through. He began researching, building budgets, attending city council meetings, gaining city approval, the list goes on! Bumps continued to come though, the trailer we thought was perfect was sold before we could purchase, mowers are in high demand and hard to find in our budget, the list of items needed felt overwhelming. But God moved, let me explain how!

  • The trailer we were going to purchase was sold, leaving us with an option that would fully engulf our budget. Impossible deals were worked, and we got a trailer slightly above our original trailer price, but so much better equipped for our needs than the first we anticipated purchasing.
  • A used lawn equipment store had just received a nearly brand new (used) riding John Deer mower and sold it to us at an unbelievable price!
  • Before sponsorship letters were even mailed, and just in discussion with community businesses, we had our first $1,000.00 donation!

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus said to his disciples questioning Jesus and their faith, “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible”. Those of us working with Engage North County have faith, have excitement, and endurance! We so look forward to seeing what God has in store for Ferguson and the surrounding areas! Please join us in getting to know your neighbor and joining hands to better our community!

God is already moving mountains!!!
